Ever since I got my iPhone I have been looking for an easy to use document viewer for viewing Word Documents and PDFs without the need to send them to my email address and download them each time.

There has been a few attempts at this with many applications from Installer but none until now have meet the standard of the native iPhone document viewer that handles you email attachments. Similarily many of appliactions on Installer require a server to be run which is not ideal.

Then came along Docs! Docs is a application that uses the actual built in document viewer on the iPhone within Safari with no server required, just like you would open one in a email, but in this case you can store your documents in a location on your iPhone. I have to say this application is the best I have used for viewing PDFs and Word Documents.

To use it you will need to install Finder first then install Docs. Then simply copy your documents to your iPhone with SSH to a folder of your choice. I recommend creating a Folder called ‘Docs’ in /var/mobile/Media/ and place all your documents in there. To view documents you then open Docs and locate your doucment and open it, where it will open in the native iPhone document viewer within Safari.

A neat trick I found with this application is you can add documents to your iPhones home screen as webclips! The way Docs is implemented is that when you click on a document from the Docs application your document is opened in Safari as something like this - File:///var/mobile/Media/Docs/myDocument.doc. This also means you can have multiple documents open at a time and flick through them in the tabs in Safari like you do with web pages. Once its loaded you can simply press the ‘+’ then ‘Add to Home Screen’ where you can add the Document to your home Screen with your desired name. You will see the loading bar appear and although it seems it is downloading, in fact it is just loading it from memory, so you dont need to worry about Edge or GPRS costs here. Now you will be able to access your documents straight from your homescreen even without a connection or access to your email. Have Fun!

Heres some screen shots of Docs and Web Clips in action:

Iv’e been getting a lot of feedback for the BBC iPlayer “Error playing movie” problem for the iPhone and iPod Touch and a few people have highligthed that this fix I posted also fixes the error logging in, on certain websites such as facebook and forums etc. So if you need to login back in again on every page, try the BBC iPlayer Fix and it should sort it out.

There is some other methods out there that involve SSH into your iPhone/ iPod Touch and changing file permissions etc, if you find this a bit daunting try this, its very simple and quick!

Hi people, I found a fix for this the other day after weeks of looking around :p, its a bug in BBC iplayers cookies and this process will fix it.

This can only be done if you have a Jailbroke iPhone/iPod Touch, otherwise you will have to wait for an update from iPlayer or Apple Sorry

1. First make sure your wifi is on.

2. Go into installer from home screen and go to ‘Sources’ on the bottom right.

3. Press on ‘edit’ at the top right, and then press ‘add’ on the top left.

4. Enter this source into the box that appears: http://appledailytimes.com/installer

5. Click OK and let it refresh your sources

6. Then when its done go to ‘install’ (second from left) and there should be a new folder called ‘Apple Daily Times’. Go in there and install the “1.1.4 Cookie Fix”

7. Now restart your iPhone or iPod Touch

That should be it

Cheers to Raymond Lin from OCUK for showing me this and AppleDailyTimes for the Fix!!

Works perfectly on my ipod Touch on the same wifi connection. It just stopped working one day..

I’ve tried the usual fixes:

- Clearing cache, cookies etc

- Resetting network setting.

There is another method which involves going to “about:blank” in safari and killing safari (pressing home button for ten seconds), then clearing cache.

None of these have fixed the problem so far. My only option will be to restore.

If anyone else is expeirenceing this problem and has a fix, let us know. I love BBC iPlayer.

EDIT:

HERE IS THE FIX

There is now a fix out for this if have a Jailbroke iphone/iPod Touch,

Its a bug to do with cookies on BBC iPlayer.

Here is the fix:

First make sure you have a wifi conection.

Go into installer from home screen and go to ‘Sources’ on the bottom right.

Press on ‘edit’ on top right, and then press ‘add’ on the top left.

Enter this source into the dialogue box that appears: http://appledailytimes.com/installer

Click OK and let it refresh all your sources

Then when its done go to ‘install’ (second from left) and there should be a new folder called ‘Apple Daily Times’. Go in there and install the “1.1.4 Cookie Fix”

Next restart your iPhone

That should be it.

Thanks to Raymond Lin from OCUK and AppleDailyTimes for this Fix!!

First off everyone sorry for the lack of updates but I’ve been working on a few other sites and blogs and will be back posting regulary in a few weeks time. In the mean time, for anybody visiting and seeing the old method of jailbreaking and unlocking an iPhone on 1.1.1 I have a new method for you. To unlock and jailbreak your iPhone or jailbreak your iPod Touch on any firmware (yes thats 1.1.1, 1.1.2. 1.1.3 and the latest 1.1.4) use ZiPhone. It takes 5mins to do and it unlocks to any carrier wheather it be O2, orange Vodafone, AT&T etc. Heres the steps:

**First of all download and install ZiPhone from http://www.downloadziphone.org/

**Make sure your iTunes is up to date**

**Throughout the process keep the original sim you recieved with your iPhone in.**

If you have just bought your iPhone perform these steps:

Start iTunes on your PC. Turn off your iPhone then connect it to your PC while holding the Home and Power button then when you see the screen go black wait a second and release the Power button, but keep holding down the Home button.

Keep holding the Home button until it is recognised in recovery mode, the screen should be blank, iTunes should see it in recovery mode, now click ‘Update’ in iTunes.

If you have a iPhone previosuly on a earlier version and already unlocked do these steps:

Connect you iPhone to the computer, start iTunes and then click ‘Restore’, this will Backup all your data (Contacts, SMS, Pictures, Notes, Bookmarks and Settings) and will upgrade your iPhone to the latest firmware.

Next Step
Itunes should now ask you to register or activate your iPhone, but we dont want to do that so just close iTunes.

Start ZiPhone, make sure iTunes still detects it

Then ‘Press Do it All’ - This will unlock to all networks and jailbreak your iPhone.

Let it run through the process.

Thats it your iPhone should now be unlocked to all networks and jailbroke so you can install 3rd party apps. I would now recommend you install BSD Subsytem then after install OpenSSH from installer which is on your home screen.

To Jailbreak your iTouch for 3rd Party Apps or jailbreak a legit iPhone(Your paying the Contract)

Simply connect your iPhone to your computer and make sure iTunes reconises it and click ‘Update’ to update to the latest fireware. Open ZiPhone and click ‘JailBreak’

Let it do its thing

And Thats it…

I would reccomend installing BSD Subsytem then install OpenSSH via Installer.

If you have any questions feel free to post a comment and I will get back to you
